Subject: Thank You from 'Bentley'
Good Morning!
Bentley wants to say a million woof thanks for the lovely cards and wishes on the best website in the world!!
He is a very happy ten year old today; he has had some chicken and rice crispies for his breakfast!! He has also had a woof at the cat from next door but one that for some reason decided to invade his garden - I said it was just coming to say Happy Birthday, but unfortunately did not quite get enough time!!
Bugsy is helping him with relaxing this morning - its very cold, frosty, and a little shower a few minutes ago has made the paths very, very slippy, even for a 4 paw!! So no walkies for now; maybe when its lunch time. Bentley has put in a request for mince and tatties for his tea, so I suppose I better see what I can arrange! He has gone to sleep next to my desk, with his head on his new birthday toy, and is currently dreaming about chasing something!! What a life!

Once again, thanks to everyone who has sent lovely wishes and e-cards; Bugsy promises to make it a special day for Bentley, and will try his best not to tease him too much or to take his new toys away from him! (Little chance of that..!)
Love, licks and woofs from Wales!

Hallo Dorothy
Loved your poem, especially the bit about the duck poo! Dogs have an awful habit of eating something disgusting and sicking it up on the lounge carpet. I think us on our knees trying to get rid of a yellow stain on the carpet appeals to the canine sense of humour!

Hi Barbara
Thanks for commenting on my poem.
Oh yes, the on the floor bit! Whenever I am scrubbing the floor or clearing the dust from under the cupboards, Zahli thinks that it's playtime! She usually sticks her nose in my hair, jumps back, then runs at me! She is not dumb because I end up playing with her anyway (ha ha)!
Your slideshows are just lovely! I did notice the pussies in the basket!
Zahli also has a duck toy that honks just like the real thing. At least they don't leave 'calling cards' though (hee hee)!
I am so sorry that you lost your precious Sophie. Oliver and Heather are such gorgeous Scotties and I know that they'd bring you so much joy. Give them super hugs from us please.
Love, Dorothy and Zahli XX

Dear Marion and Roger
It was wonderful to see Kyle's slideshow and when I tuned in to the accompanying song fully and to the words, I cried.
The poor, dishevelled, displaced, under-nourished, anxious - but jolly - little soul I collected from his transporter in the early hours of the morning just before Christmas, and who stayed with us for B & B before travelling on to you, didn't look much like a Scottie.
Look at you now Kyle! So handsome, healthy and confident!! The true Scottie has emerged. Alleluia!!!
You are a STAR ...
Love,
x Penny x
Many thanks Penny. We are truly amazed at the transformation too. Just goes to show what a little TLC can do.

Subject: Adoption
Just before Christmas Marion and I were offered the opportunity to foster (adopt) 2 Scottish Terriers. It turned out that they were utterly 'chalk and cheese'; one, middle aged, quiet and set in his ways and the other wild, aggressive, used to running free, under-nourished and craving affection.
For almost a week we did our best to ensure that both Scotties were equally treated and tried to make sure that they could "get along". To our disappointment this was not to be. We had now reached the stage where each dog had to be catered for separately and it became clear that the aggressive one would never leave the other in peace. With regret, we arranged for one of the dogs to be returned. In our view the 'aggressive' dog needed much more care and attention so it was he that remained with us.
One week on and 'things' are so much different. Daily walks (combining lead and whistle training), 5 regular meals (and treats), a trim, a bath and lots of cuddles have brought the 'real' dog to the fore. Underneath that (sometimes) aggressive exterior lives a potentially wonderful companion.
We have hopes that he has now found his forever home and would like to introduce you to Kyle:

Fostering/adopting any animal will never be easy but if you really care then you can make all the difference.
Our little adventure was brought about due to the offices of the Scottish Terrier Emergency Care Scheme (S.T.E.C.S.) whose officers and helpers carry out so many tasks during the year - tasks including temporary accommodation, food and shelter, the vetting of potential carers and the transportation of dogs to their new homes (and the collection, also, when 'things' don't go as expected). There are also others who, as friends of S.T.E.C.S., help out when they can. These unsung heroes/heroines deserve the highest praise.
Our grateful thanks to Penny Gutridge (S.T.E.C.S. member and a friend of Scottiedoglovers), Karen Clayton, Cath Marchbank and David Kennerley all of S.T.E.C.S.

Hello Marion and Roger,
It is with delight that I read of your new addition, Kyle - a fine looking boy.
Adopting rescues takes special people who are prepared to put the mental and physical welfare of their animals first, which I know that you both do.
Kyle is very lucky to have found a new forever home with you both and the other Scottie will also find his own meant to be forever home.
Thank you for sharing your news, happy and sad, with us all at 'Scottiedoglovers' and thank you for your ongoing compassion to all of us readers. You make all of us feel special.
Happy 2012 to you all and to all of your 'Scottiedoglovers' readers and their animal companions.
Keep up the excellent work.
Love to you both and a big cuddle for Kyle.

Dear Marion and Roger,
I am sorry that Kyle and Sam were unable to bond and become friends. It's always difficult dealing with different personalities and obviously it has become clear that Kyle has issues that need special care.
I can only say a huge thank you to both of you for trying so hard to make it work and I am sure Sam will find his forever home through the dedicated efforts of Cath Marchbank.
As for Kyle, I can say with certainty that he has landed on his paws by finding such a kind, loving and understanding home with yourselves. It is sometimes tempting to take the easier option and only the most dedicated people are willing to look past that option and see what good they can do for a little one who needs help. We don't know really what kind of life poor Kyle had but I am sure that his life now is a million times better and he will slowly realize that he has found the most loving home a Scottie could hope for. S.T.E.C.S. cannot thank you enough for your willingness to take Kyle and with patience make him a happier little boy.
If I could I would also like to say a big thank you to Penny Gutridge for being happy and willing to drive out in the middle of the night to collect Kyle from his transporter and then help him continue his journey towards his new home. Thank you so much Penny.
I hope all goes well with Kyle and by improving his life so much you both in turn receive years of happiness from him.
My very best wishes to you all for the future.
Karen Clayton

Hello Marion, Roger and of course Kyle,
Happy New Year to you all.
What wonderful news that Kyle has found you both - what a lucky little dog. He has certainly fallen on his pads!
Look forward to hearing progress reports on him. Having adopted two angry little monsters 7 years ago we speak from experience that any and all the hard work involved will pay off.
Fondest regards,
Cynthia, John and the girls

Dear Marion, Roger and Kyle
Dudley Bear and I had a few days at home and gave our computer keyboard a rest.
Such wonderful news - big smiles all round - welcome Kyle to your new world, full of love, care and happiness. You really are quite a distinguished looking chap. The girls will be emailing you daily (rascal) and I'm quite sure, knowing all the care Marion and Roger give so freely, Sam will also be happy in his new home.
Well, I'm quite sure you have enough emails to get through for the time being. Dudley Bear and I look forward to more photos and news of your happy times ahead and there will be love and hugs with licks and woofs for now.
Once again, a big welcome home.
