Subject: Love to all Scotties and Mia

Hello to all you lovely Scotties, especially Mia XXXX.

Spring will soon be here.  I have had my clip, so now I am showing off in my shop window.  I don't have a 'best' side - they are all best!

Mummy read the message from Mia to me.  She knows I blush easily, so she took this photograph of me and I didn't have to look at the camera.  I have my best scarf on and if you look very carefully, Mia, you will see I am wearing my heart on my scarf for you XXXX

Dudley with scarf

Well, I'm now off for my walk - not sure who to take - Mummy took me last night (it was raining) so I think I'll take Dad for a change - he needs the exercise!!

With love to Marion.

Thank you.

Hi Marion and Roger,

Thanks for your comment Roger - yes, I managed to add frames.  I can program robots, but hey! office stuff is down to Mia's PA, aka Jools.

Can you please pass on from Mia a warm welcome to Jock, and a Merry Christmas to Jan, Sam and Jock Brown.  Will check my diary - might meet you next year.

To Maureen Guthrie & Dudley - thanks for your chats.

Hey Dudley, it only gets better - want to meet you, can we wait until the weather gets warmer?  If I get any problems over Christmas Dudley, write to me, and hey! what's all this white stuff - snow?  Guess I have to check it out.  Have a great holiday.

    Hello Mia

When I read your message thank goodness my fur is black.  Wow! did I blush - my cheeks burned, and I became quite shy.  I must say when I saw your photos, I thought "What a Scottie girl!" I would love to meet you - imagine a warm summer day, running in the fields.  Yesterday was my first taste of that white stuff they call snow.  I loved it, then my feet became very cold, and my nose, so I chickened out and ran indoors, and sat on Mum's lap.  I was nice and wet, and she didn't look too happy, so I gave her a nudge with my nose, gave her a lick, and she soon softened,
and gave me a big hug (I know how to get round her).  So then a nice warm minced chicken dinner, and us Scotties have to have our rest, so off to sleep until tea time, nice and warm on the sofa, with my own special Scottie and Westie dog cushion.  Still, it's hard work being a Scottie.

    Lots of Scottie love Mia.

I only found your web site yesterday and have already enjoyed all the photos and emails.  I have had Jock since he was 7 months old and he is now 2.  It is the first time I have owned a Scottie but what a joy he is to our family.  My husband did not want a dog but now he spends his time playing with him and they are the best of pals.

Hi Marion,

Geoff and I haven't posted anything here for a while due to our being preoccupied with our latest Scottie addition. Alice, 8 years old, came to us in September. Hopefully Alice will have an extra special first Christmas with us and her new younger brother, Hector.

Congratulations on nearing your 1st anniversary - we love this site and visit every week. You've also made our Hector a pin-up star so he's more than happy.

We hope to post a couple of pictures of Alice and Hector in the New Year.

Merry Christmas to you both and to all of your readers.

Dear Scottie lovers,

I am new to this site - it is great.   My Scottie is 11 years old now and he had a seed in his paw.  He was lucky that it had not gone up the leg.  The vet put him under anaesthetic and dug it out (he had to wear little baby socks on his foot for a week) “don't worry, you will soon find things will be better”.

We have another problem now.  He is urinating in the night and drinks lots of water, but only since we put him onto Burns Hypo-allergenic brown rice and seaweed/oils, but we have not mixed them - he loves them on their own.   Can someone please give me an idea on how much and what food they feed their Scottie on?   Jamie has 3 long walks a day.  He eats a lot of other food including boiled beef/Hi life and Asda Adult box of soft food.

Happy days to everyone from Anne and Jamie, who is an independent boy.

    Hi Anne,

I have two Scotties, and I feed them 3 meals each, every day, of boiled chicken and well-boiled white rice.  This was suggested to me by my own vet as white meat and rice are more easily digested, and can help with skin problems.

From what you say - and this is my own personal opinion - I would make an appointment with your own veterinary practice and ask their advice on a feeding regime, particularly in view of Jamie's age, and you also say he is urinating in the night.  Most veterinary practices have diet clinics as part of their treatment facilities.  They would weigh Jamie and, taking into account how much exercise he has, offer a suitable feeding plan for him.

I hope this helps you Anne.

    Kind regards, Marion

    Hello Anne

Grass 'darts' are really nasty. My darling Scottie, Shannah, had a really nasty paw. We found out she had cancer in her toe and, once amputated, she had to have her dear little paw covered up, so on went the baby's sock. I bought five pairs - very pretty, with daisies and bows, in the most lovely colours. Would she keep them on? No! - so through the night l had to keep watch. I would doze off, then l heard "lick, lick", so back on her sweet foot her little sock went. This was over six weeks - not too long for me , but for my darling Shannah a lifetime. But just a grass seed does not have to be this nasty, but very upsetting for you both.

Take care - Maureen and Dudley Bear

Subject: New Scottie Pup

We have just recently become the proud owners of a Scottie pup. Her name is Mia and she has rapidly become part of the family. Our last dog sadly passed away; she was a Boxer. Mia already is showing what we believe to be the traits and character of the Scottie. There is no comparison between our late beloved Boxer and Mia. Although Mia is not a substitute, she is a family pet. She comes from show stock with a five generation pedigree. She is four months old, and so lovable. We would appreciate advice from Scottie owners on how to bring 'our baby' up with regard to living 'the Scottie way'. At present she has decided to re-arrange our garden - oh well, happy years ahead!

Kindest regards,

Jules and Brian

    Subject: Scottie

Greetings to new Scottie pup Mia. We just wanted to let Brian and Julie know how much fun you are going to have owning a Scottie. Get used to people saying "A Scottie dog? - I haven't seen one of those for years; my granny used to have one." You chose well in getting a black dog - we don't show the dirt up after digging in the garden - not like our white Westie cousins. Cats - we love them - we try so hard to catch them up and say "Hello" but they never seem to want to stay around to meet us. We love squirrels - when we see one we shout and bark to say "Hello" but they just run up the trees - how anti-social can you get? Our Mum and Dad tell us we have selective hearing, whatever that might be. We hear and know the words 'walkies', 'dinner' and 'biscuit' - what more do we need to hear? We like a cup of tea during the day but, with our whiskers the shape they are, our Mum always says, "Look at the mess you two are making." We are both 10 years old now and came to our Mum and Dad when we were 5 years old because nobody wanted us. We, as is the Scottie trait, are loyal and loving - that is what our Mum and Dad say. People say that Scotties can be stubbon - we can't agree with that. We reserve the right to be wrong sometimes and, should you prove us wrong, we reserve the right to change our minds.

    Hello Jules and Brian,

Congratulations on your new family member. One mistake - you think you own Mia, no way - she definitely owns you and things will be done her way. They are wonderful little dogs who work their way into our hearts and remain there. They are also stubborn, loving and playful little dogs. I have seen Mia's photos - she is beautiful and already knows what she wants. Don't worry about the garden, it will be OK eventually. My girl has done that as well, but she loves tearing up magazines, breaking pens, chewing the T.V. zapper - I could go on all night. But I love my two to bits. Good luck.

    Hello Jules and Brian

Your new baby Scottie, Mia, is gorgeous. They are a breed apart. I have been owned by 3 Scotties - 2 have passed away, and at the moment we have Dudley - cor! what a stubborn boy. Scotties are known for this, and does he live up to the name! Your little girl looks so sweet, but she has her own mind and you will love her for it, but not right now. I would love to know your late Boxer's name, whom you loved and will not forget. To me all dogs have different shapes and colours, but they are all wonderful and faithful friends.

With affection and love - from Maureen and Dudley

    Subject: 1st Anniversary - Brodie

    Hello Jean,

My deepest thoughts are with you. You have a lot of love for Brodie and it will last forever. He is in your heart forever - a very special place to be. I lost my Scottie, Shannah, last October, very suddenly. She was playing the day before - she had a massive heart attack. The pain was unbearable, but the love grew even stronger. Slowly the pain is less, and love is winning. Over the past 38 years I have had 3 Westies and 3 Scotties in my life. Although 5 have passed on, they all have a special place in my heart, which is big enough, so I now have Dudley, a rescue. He has come into our lives, and taken the pain away. When Dudley is sleeping, the images of all my 'best friends' come into my mind and I smile. I never thought I would after the loss of my first Westie, Bruce, but they are all so special. The love you feel for Brodie is a treasure you will always feel - the love will stay, only the pain will go.

With love to you Jean - from Dudley and Maureen.

    Hi Maureen and Jean,

I know how you both feel about the loss of your special friends - we really never forget them. In the last 33 years our family have lost a Scottie cross, a Scottie, two Westies and three Cairns. We still talk about them and remember the good times - they never really leave us. I am now, as Maureen will know, blessed with Bailey, age nine, and a rescue, Lady, age 1.5 years. Maureen - I did email you just to say Lady is doing great after her operation and is back to all her devilment!

Hi Sharon,

I hope you do not mind me calling you by your first name. I am new to crafting and computing and I have been trying to record your slot on TV. I keep missing you, but I have seen part of it - it is brilliant. This is the first time I have gone into your site and it is so good. One day I will get your CD but I need to watch it so that I know what I am doing.

Hello Marion - I'm so excited; Dudley is in the STECS calendar. I also bought a Scottie teddy bear - my goodness, how life-like! Dudley was so upset because I gave it a cuddle and a kiss - he is so jealous, I couldn't believe it. So extra kisses and cuddles, a much longer walk and he compromised. He laid on the bottom of the bed last night, not next to me, and I missed him.

Please take care - Dudley, my Scottie, at this moment is having his paw operated on to remove a grass seed. When we took him to the vet's on Friday all seemed to be going well, but it looks as if the grass seed has started to travel up his leg. I will know this afternoon if the operation is successful. With baited breath I'm waiting for the 'phone call. Love you - Dudley xxxxx
